Call 911 immediately in an emergency.  If you have a NON-Emergency Safety or Security concern, please report it through any of our available tip reporting tools. (You may choose to remain anonymous or provide contact information for a callback.)

Help identify at-risk individuals BEFORE they hurt themselves or others by reporting threats, harassing behaviors, illegal activity, etc. Please provide as much information as possible especially location, date and time. The more information you provide, the better District staff can respond to your concern.

Report an Absence Online

According to SBBC Policy 5.5: All students under 16 are required to attend school every day of the 180-day school year. Absences are established by tardiness, early sign-outs, or absences for all or part of any day. The maximum number of acceptable absences is 5 days. Additionally, please note that students may not be released after 1:45 p.m.

1. Parents have 2 days (48 hours) in which to report an absence.
2. The Attendance Policy allows eight (8) reasons for absence to be excused.
3. Make up work for credit and grade is allowed for ALL absences.Learn more about Homework/Makeup Work.

Arrival:

Students must arrive at school on time every day. Students should be in class by 9:00 AM. 

Tardy:

Students arriving after 9:00 AM will be considered TARDY. If students arrive after 9:00 AM, the student will need to obtain a pass from the front office to be admitted to class.

Early Dismissal:

If you know in advance that you will be picking your child up early, please address a note to his/her teacher with the following information:
1.  The time you wish your child to be in the main office.
2.  A phone number where you can be reached during school hours.
3.  A parent/guardian signature.
It is still necessary for the parent/guardian to come into the main office to sign out the student. Only those people listed on the child's information card are allowed to pick that child up. Excessive early dismissal could result in unexcused absences in the classes missed. Early dismissal is permitted up to thirty minutes prior to dismissal.

Dismissal:

The dismissal time is 3:30 PM. All students are expected to remain in school for the entire school day.  No students will be dismissed 30 minutes prior to the last bell for safety reasons. 

Bicycle helmets are required by law. For safety's sake, bicycles may not be ridden anywhere on the school campus. Students must park their bicycles inside the fenced areas. The north area is to be used by students living on the northeast side of 90th Avenue. All other students use the south bike area. It is the student's responsibility to secure the bicycle with a strong lock and chain. It is advisable to keep a full description of the bicycle, including the serial number, in a safe place at home. Bicycles should be registered with the Cooper City Police Department. Students are expected to observe safety rules while on campus and going to and from school. The Broward County School Board is not responsible for damage to, or theft of bicycles. Skateboards, motorbikes, and motorcycles are not permitted on the school campus.

Possession of a wireless communication device that disrupts the educational process is a violation. Cellular phones, camera phones, and pagers are prohibited at all times during class unless specifically instructed to do so as part of the lesson.

All Broward County Public Schools conduct regular exercises and drills at various times as outlined in the Florida Fire Code and Florida Administrative Code.

To aid in this process, every school has a designated SAFE team comprised of faculty and staff who have been specially trained on appropriate procedures to ensure every school follows safety protocol.

Discussion-based tabletop exercises are also conducted regularly with staff, faculty, and community partners, and the results of these exercises are documented and incorporated into school safety plans as necessary.  

All public schools are required to conduct one (1) fire drill per month with one (1) additional occurring within the first 30 days. Additionally, public schools are required to conduct, at a minimum, six (6) emergency drills every school year that are nonconcurrent with fire drills. One emergency drill must take place within the first ten (10) days of the beginning of the school year, and the remaining drills may not occur more than forty-five (45) days apart. Four (4) of the six (6) emergency drills must address active threats. The remaining two (2) drills must address other emergency events, such as severe weather, natural disasters, hazardous materials incidents, or reunification.

Students are expected to fully participate in drills and follow the directions of faculty and staff.

Any student who has been externally suspended during the current school year, or who has been referred to the office three or more times for disciplinary reasons during the current year, will be excluded from grade level field trips. Bus referrals are included in this policy.

The quarterly grading system used in the SIXTH, SEVENTH and EIGHTH grades and the interpretation of the letter grades, which represent the equivalent numerical grades, are as follows:

Students requiring medication during school hours must have a written consent form signed by a parent, and a completed treatment plan signed by the physician on file in the main office before any medication can be administered. These forms can be obtained in the front office. Students are not allowed to have any medication on their person during school hours. We are not even allowed to give aspirin without a treatment plan from a physician.

Students who have minor illnesses should request a pass to the clinic.  Students who require more than a brief period in the clinic are allowed to contact a parent to arrange for pick-up. Students are not permitted to stay in the clinic for extended periods of time or for serious illnesses.  If for any reason, the student has to walk or ride a bike home, the parents, after being notified by the student, must speak with a school staff member to confirm the arrangement.

All visitors including parents must check into the attendance office prior to going to any classrooms or any area on campus. An official photo identification (ID) is required. Acceptable forms of ID include the following:

• Driver’s license 
• Florida’s official state identification card
• Passport

Visitor Parking:

All visitors must park in the designated visitor parking spaces. Please do not park in spaces designated for faculty and staff or in the bus loop. 

Controlling School Traffic is Essential for Safety

Students should be picked up and dropped off in the car loop only. Any visitors must sign-in in the front office for all conferences, student drop-off/pick-up, or for admittance in the building.

In an effort to reduce traffic congestion on SW 90th Avenue, motorists have the option to drop-off and pick up their children at the Church of God on the corner of Stirling Road and SW 90th Avenue. Children can walk safely to and from school on the sidewalk along SW 90th Avenue and cross under the supervision of the crossing guard in front of Pioneer.

The following rules and regulations have been established to provide transportation for bus pupils in the safest manner:

• By reason of authority delegated to him/her by the school principal, the bus driver has absolute authority over the students while they are riding the bus.
• Students who ride the bus are expected to behave in a quiet, orderly manner while riding to and from school.
• Students are expected to ride the same bus.
• Students who misbehave on the bus must be reported to the principal by the bus driver. Continued misbehavior on the bus will result in a student being suspended from riding that bus. Misbehavior, when it may endanger the safety and lives of other pupils, cannot be tolerated.
• A pupil will not be put off the bus at any stop other than his/her regular one.
• Non-transported students will not be given permission to ride home with a friend on a bus.
